Revenge porn

The unauthorized publishing of intimate pictures of a feminine partner or ex-partner by men of all ages and even teenagers is a practice that has been widely spread lately. The sexist culture that lies behind this kind of gender violence that affects women has even adopted the “revenge porn” euphemism as to identify this crime.

Neither it is porn nor revenge, it is a crime against women.

There is no doubt whether the struggle for gender equality is necessary for this scourge to be fought, for the inequality is also behind this form of women’s victimization.

In line with the above, there is no room for the utilization of the euphemism “revenge porn”, which helps the legitimization of this act. It cannot be considered as pornographic content because, unlike pornography, such content was not produced with the purpose of exhibiting it to others (either pursuing profit-making or not). In addition, it is also not revenge (act that, based on the law of retaliation, many people consider rightful) as it cannot be understood as a reaction to an equivalent previous event. Let us call things by their name, we are talking about the unauthorized exposing of intimate pictures. This is sexual cyber violence against women.
